General Job Description


The director of the worship and music program will work in cooperation with the Pastor to create a dynamic worship experience to honor and magnify the name of Jesus. In addition, the director will plan, organize, and implement year-round programs in the area of worship and music ministry.

  • Including diverse music and song, scripture, prayer, praise, offerings, and testimony about God’s work in our lives.

  • Growing Closer to God and becoming more spiritually enriched through the power of prayer, and the Holy Spirit.


Key Competencies

  • Possess the ability to organize and direct worship and music programs

  • Possess a willingness to lead congregational prayer in order to foster a spirit of worship and praise

  • Piano/other instrument skills highly desirable


Qualifications for Job

The Worship and Music Director should:

  • Be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ

  • Be spiritually mature, maintaining personal Bible Study and prayer time in order to nurture his/her walk with Christ

  • Feel a strong calling to work in the worship and music ministry of the church

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for worship and music

  • Be at least 21 years of age (Unless a College Student in an Intern Program)

  • Be willing to submit to a background check

  • Have experience and expertise in using technology in music and ministry programs

  • Possess strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach

  • Maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality

  • Possess the ability to multi-task

  • Maintain an organized and workable inventory of all music and equipment related to the music ministry

  • Organize storage areas and control the use of music materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse

  • Make minor adjustments to music equipment and request repairs as appropriate


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide consistency and focus for the worship and music ministry

  • Provide leadership that volunteers, group leaders, and musical performers can reply upon.

  • Provide leadership that captures gifts and talents of volunteers who contribute to the worship services

  • Build relationships that empower volunteers, choir members and groups to present musical talents that will accommodate a wide range of worship preferences

  • Lead congregational worship each Sunday Morning

  • Oversee the entire music ministry of the church

  • Direct the music programs of the church, including the adult choir and a possible praise team

  • Schedule and direct weekly music rehearsals and special rehearsals as needed

  • Coordinate with the pianist, organist, and other musicians as needed

  • Plan and direct Christmas and Easter programs, and other special celebrations as necessary, (i.e. Memorial Day)

  • Coordinate with sound technicians as needed

  • Plan the annual music budget, and oversee the expenditures of the worship and music ministry


  The Worship and Music Director is evaluated semi-annually by the Pastor.   Feedback will be provided on a regular basis.

Other Duties:

  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled by the Pastor

  • Perform any other music ministry related duties as assigned by the Pastor


Salary: 20 hours per week, based upon experience
